Yard Waste Stickers Now Available For Purchase Online

Residents of Newburyport may now purchase yard waste stickers in order to use the Yard Waste Facility. The Yard Waste Facility is projected to be open for the season on April 7th, weather permitting.

Please be sure to purchase your yard waste sticker(s) by going to the Online Payment Center on the City's official website, clicking on "ORDER NOW!", and selecting the "YARD WASTE STICKERS" transaction on the left side. After submitting your application, you should receive your yard waste sticker within 3 to 5 business days. However, you are still permitted to use the Yard Waste Facility even if you have not physically received the sticker yet; instead, you can show a receipt of the purchase that should've been emailed to you to one of the attendants. For detailed instructions on how to purchase a yard waste sticker online, please visit this link.

NOTE: There will be a section of the application that will make it seem like you have to create an account. You do not need to make an account on UniPay. Instead, you can simply "Continue as Guest".

Please also note that unless you are disabled (technological impairment/difficulty), do not wish to provide personal information of any kind online, and/or do not own a computer or smart phone, we ask that you purchase your sticker(s) online ONLY and not from the Sustainability Office at City Hall.

Should you have any questions, concerns, or require assistance with completing the yard waste sticker application, please call the Sustainability Office at (978) 499-0413 or email jpierce@newburyportma.gov.

Proper Disposal of Pet Waste

As we begin our journey into the spring time, our walks in the park with our furry friends will be...well, "like a walk in the park"! And as you take little Growlkowski for more strolls, that means more opportunities for him to score touchdowns¹ on public property. As such, it's important to keep our home field clean and safe so that others may enjoy their time outdoors.

It is estimated that 6.5 million tons of dog waste is generated every year in the U.S., and dog waste left on public grounds amounts to more than that of wildlife. As such, when it rains or when all the snow from Snowmageddon: Part II inevitably melts, pet waste can turn into runoff and get into waterways such as the Merrimack River and Artichoke Reservoir. Excess nitrogen and phosphorus from pet waste can lead to eutrophication, a process that creates algae blooms.

So when your pet needs to do their business outdoors, please be sure to clean up after your companion and dispose of the waste into the garbage.

¹in this context, "score touchdowns" means poop
