MassSave Programs

MassSave, an initiative sponsored by Massachusetts’s natural gas and electric utilities and energy efficiency service providers, has oversight by the DOER. MassSave helps residents and businesses manage energy use and related costs.

In addition to funding municipal initiatives for residents, individuals may reach out to MassSave directly for ideas and assistance. MassSave provides home energy audits, discounts on energy efficient lighting and appliances, assistance (guidance, installation, and rebates) for purchases of energy-saving furnaces, broilers, and other heating and cooling equipment, and assistance for building new energy-efficient homes.

MassSave programs are funded by a variety of sources, the largest of which are the System Benefit Charge and the Energy Efficiency Reconciliation Factor created by the Green Communities Act. Typically, 11% of the funding comes from RGGI auction proceeds. The Mass DOER allocates these funds.
