Curtis Review Committee
The Mayor Andrew R. Curtis Fund was established in 2024 with the intention of making annual gifts to the City of Newburyport in perpetuity for public purposes that will enrich the community. The City Council approved a non-judicial settlement agreement on August 12, 2024, to accept these gifts. As part of that Order 582, and in appreciation of the generosity of the Curtis Family and acknowledging the ongoing nature of this gift, the City Council, in collaboration with Mayor Sean Reardon, established a Special Review Committee by Order 671 to make recommendations to the Curtis Fund Trustees on the allocation of the annual gift from the Trustees. This order was approved on March 10, 2025, to establish the Mayor Andrew R Curtis Review Committee.
The seven (7) member Committee is charged with soliciting input for ideas and concepts from Department Heads, Board and Commission Chairs from January 15 through April 1, annually. The Committee will meet to review applications, based upon published assessment criteria, and ask questions of the applicants during public meetings. The Committee will then submit their recommendations to the Trustees for their final determination of how to direct the annual gift. A gift acceptance will then be submitted to the Council by the Mayor for final approval.
