Sharps Disposal Program

Newburyport City Hall has a sharps (or needles) drop-off box available for public use. It is imperative to dispose of needles properly as improper disposal poses a serious health risk not only to people, but to wildlife as well. All needles MUST be placed inside a hard, secure container (such as a detergent bottle or plastic juice bottle with a screw-on lid) as the personnel who picks up the needles needs to be kept safe as well.

The sharps drop-off box is located in the lower level of City Hall outside the Recycling and Energy Office. City Hall is open from 8 AM – 4 PM Mondays through Wednesdays, 8 AM – 7 PM on Thursdays, and 8 AM – 12 PM on Fridays. If there is ambulatory assistance needed, please call the Public Health Nurse on Tuesdays or Thursdays at (978) 465-4413, ext. 1247. There is parking along Green Street to enter the back of the building. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call the Recycling and Energy Office at (978)-499-0413.
