MAY IS MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH.

YOU ARE NOT ALONE

May is a time to raise awareness, educate those touched by, and reduce the stigma of those living with mental or behavioral health issues.

Mental Wellness includes our emotional, psychological and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make healthy choices.T

he following programs are being offered at the Newburyport Senior/Community Center at no charge. Pre-registration needed at the C.O.A or call Ann at 978-462-0430 for more information.

-Wednesday, May 1, 2024 11:00-12:00, Food, Mood and Brain Health- Join Registered Dietitian, Leigh Hartwell from AgeSpan, to learn about the MIND diet. The MIND diet was developed to reduce dementia and the decline in brain health that occurs as we age. Following this eating plan may also lower the risk of anxiety, depression, and other psychological disorders. Learn how the food choices you make today can lead to a healthier brain tomorrow.

June is National Safety Month

June is a time to increase public awareness of safety risks and decrease the number of injuries in the home.

OUTREACH PROGRAM AT HOUSING SITES

Ann Freeman, Outreach/Social Worker will be available to residents once a month at the following housing sites to provide Trivia Programs or information regarding services available through the C.O.A.:

Monday, May 13th and June 10th, 10:30-11:30 at James Steam Mill

Tuesday, May 21st and June 11th, 10:30-11:30 at Sullivan Building

Wednesday, May15th and June 12th 10:30-11:30 at Heritage House

Outreach Program at Community Meals

Ann Freeman reaches out to seniors at various community meals including:

Monday- St Basil’s Church, 7 Harris St NBPT, 11:30

Tuesday- St Paul’s Church, 166 High St NBPT, 11:00

Wednesday- Salvation Army, 40 Water St NBPT, 11:00

Please stop by, say hello, and schedule an office visit if needed.
