COA Director Roseann Robillard Celebrates Cindy's Retirement

Roseann Robillard, retired in November 2020 after 27 years of building up the Newburyport Council on Aging into a gold standard operation as the Director. Roseann impacted thousands of lives during her nearly three decade run and designed an incredible organization and Senior/Community Center.  Those who experienced her grace, diligence, and compassion are best equipped to tell the story:

Roseann has a heart the size of 2 Grand Canyons!

-Ernie

When we first moved to Newburyport, my mother was living with us.  I went to Roseann for advice and assistance many times regarding transport for Mom to doctor’s appointments as well as to adult day care.  I have not been able to drive because of my eyesight so the assistance I received was greatly appreciated.  Roseann always went above and beyond to help us regarding Mom’s care.  If there was not a driver available, Roseann actually filled in herself for the rides.

As coordinator for the Newburyport Low Vision Support Group, I also had contact with Roseann.  She always ensured that we would have a room available for our group meetings.  She made sure we were comfortable and safe.  We also found it necessary to have rides provided for many of our members and of course she was always ready to help us in that respect.  She also made herself available to be our speaker from time-to-time and would fill us in on new developments at the Senior Center and would explain everything from housing to entertainment.  I had always hoped she would be at the COA forever, but I am sure she is having a well-deserved retirement and hopefully rest, however, I hope she will grace us with her presence if possible from time-to-time.

Thank you, Roseann, for so many years of dedication to everyone who crossed your path.  Stay happy and healthy.

 Your friends,

Joanne Maki & Low Vision Support Group

Testimonials about Newburyport COA:

Just a note to say thank you for your help getting scheduled at the Newburyport Senior Center, through Beth Israel Leahy Health, for my COVID-19 vaccination. I felt I was in a never ending cycle of phone calls with other resources. You put me in touch with BILH and I was scheduled locally within two weeks. Thanks again for being a great resource!

 -Geoff

I would like to commend the Newburyport Council on Aging and in particular the Director for her kindness and helpfulness during a recent confusion with my second vaccination for Covid 19 virus. There was a problem to solve and she promptly began working on it on my behalf.  I felt cared for and appreciated. It is wonderful to have this support while aging here in Newburyport!  The volunteers who answered the phone, Susan and Maureen, were both helpful and courteous too!  I am so grateful to the NBPT Council on Aging.

-Carol

I want to let you know how much I have enjoyed the virtual sessions on Thursday afternoons with Vinny that highlight film and music clips from mostly older and some new films.  Vinny is so knowledgeable about the films, actors and actresses, and music and his enthusiasm is genuine and contagious.  I encourage others to participate in these Zoom sessions.  I guarantee they will make you smile!  Thank you and Vinny for setting up this wonderful activity.

One of the unsung heroes of the Friends from its very beginning, Betty (Abby Stearns), in her quiet unassuming way was always there to donate her time and resources to assist in any way she could.  She was a woman of extraordinary integrity and purpose: she will be sorely missed...

I would like to thank (your SHINE Counselor) for her assistance in navigating signup for Medicare and supplemental insurance.  She was extremely knowledgeable and thorough. Amazing Artists! (Newburyport students participating in annual Youth Art Show at Senior/Community Center)

I LOVE the artwork-the drawings, the sculptures, the weavings...ALL OF IT!  What an uplifting display to view.  I feel happier seeing art that was created by the young people in my community.  Thank you all.

-Sarah

I love the Newburyport Senior/Community Center=welcoming, excellent activities including exercise groups, ukulele lessons, therapy dogs, chess club, and more. Delicious coffee and tea-hot and cold-made fresh every morning. Lunch available to eat there or to-go. Friendly people and staff. I visit daily Monday thru Friday. Thank you, Paula!
