New!  Downtown Shuttle Service Available

The Council on Aging is offering a new complimentary DOWNTOWN SHUTTLE so that seniors can enjoy Newburyport's vibrant downtown without having to worry about parking or having to walk too far.

The COA Downtown Shuttle schedule may shift to adjust to demand based on weather, events, etc.

Ride around Newburyport on the Wheelchair Accessible COA Bus

One of the most important services that the Newburyport Council on Aging provides is transportation.  The Newburyport COA transports persons with disabilities age and older adults safely to destinations-financial institutions (banks), grocery stores, and hair stylists/barbers-around Newburyport.  Medical appointments are always prioritized.

The bus operates Monday through Friday, 8:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

While the service is complimentary, a $1 donation to offset expenses is appreciated.

To increase your chances of securing a ride, please call in requests at least 48-hours in advance.

 

Travel Out of Town with NEET

Northern Essex Elder Transport, Inc. (NEET) is a non-profit volunteer driver program serving older adults in fourteen communities of the Merrimack Valley that supports the operational function of Councils on Aging.​  All transportation is arranged through local COAs.  The service is complimentary, but a free will donation is welcome.

Rides to out-of-town destinations have resumed through the NEET program, (Northern Essex Elder Transport, Inc.)

To take advantage of this valuable service, download the NEET Rider Registration Packet or request that it be mailed to you by calling the Newburyport COA at (978) 462-0430.

To learn more about becoming a volunteer driver for NEET, click here.  A typical ride averages 29 miles and 2 hours.  Volunteers specify what times they are available and assisting even once per month is very helpful.  NEET provides mileage reimbursement and free supplemental insurance.

Ride around Newburyport and beyond with the MeVa-Merrimack Valley Transit

The Merrimack Valley Transit (MeVa) became FARE-FREE on March 1, 2022 for at least a 2 year period for all local fixed routes and EZ Trans paratransit services.

Fares will still be collected on the Boston Commuter bus.

MeVa adjusted many routes on April 1, 2023. Check out the MeVa website for the most updated information.
