Life Insurance

The City's life insurance carrier is Boston Mutual Life Insurance Company. The City offers a basic $5,000 double indemnity term life insurance policy for most employees and a $10,000 double indemnity term life insurance policy for Police and Fire employees. Employee's must enroll within 30 days of the first day of employment to be eligible for this insurance benefit. The City pays 75% of this premium and the employee pays 25%. There is no cash value to these policies, as they are term insurance, payable upon death. If you leave employment, the coverage is “portable” for yourself, spouse and dependent children. 

Additional voluntary term life insurance and dependent life coverage is also available. The employee pays the entire cost of this additional insurance.
