Beach testing for 2026 season

The Weekly Bathing Beach Testing is different from Public Health Warnings issued for CSOs.

The Health Department, pursuant to 105 CMR 445.000, conducts weekly water testing during the summer season in and around the Plum Island Point Beach.
("Summer Season" defined as June 10th through September 2nd)
In the event the water quality is found to be unsafe for swimming, the Health Department in conjunction with the Harbormaster Department, will post signs at public beach entrances and in the parking lot notifying beach goers and will continue to test the water until it is found to be safe.
Please contact the Health Department with any questions or concerns.
SAMPLE LOCATION DESCRIPTIONS:
55th Street -- Directly off of the beach access path on 55th Street.
PI Point -- Next to the Captains Fishing docks.
End of Island 1 -- South side of the sandbar along the South Jetty (still within the river).
End of Island 2 -- North side of the sandbar in the river

MDPH's Interactive Beaches Dashboard provides water quality testing results for the current beach season (MA Bathing Beaches). It will tell you which beaches are open or closed. If a beach is closed, do not swim or enter the water at that location to avoid risk of illness.
