Mosquitoes & Ticks

MOSQUITOES
There are often two viruses associated with mosquitoes in Massachusetts: West Nile Virus (WNV) and Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE or "Triple E"). These viruses can cause illness ranging from mild fever to more serious disease like encephalitis or meningitis. Mosquitoes also can carry other diseases, especially in other parts of the world, including Zika virus and Dengue fever. That is why it is important to protect yourself at all times from bites.

The City of Newburyport has a contract with Northeast Massachusetts Mosquito Control & Wetlands Management District (NEMMC) for mosquito monitoring (breeding grounds/standing water/catch basins) and spraying. If you would like to request an exclusion from wide area pesticide applications, please click here for instructions
