Afroz K. Khan
Afroz K. Khan was first elected into office as a Councillor At Large in 2017. She is currently serving her fifth two-year term. Afroz was born and raised in Chicago by her immigrant parents who came to the US from India in the 1960's. She received her B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Alaska Fairbanks and earned her Masters in Electric Power Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
Afroz is currently a consultant working as a senior specialist in energy efficiency. She also sits on the board of the Massachusetts Municipal Councillors Association (MMCA), part of the Massachusetts Municipal Association (MMA), serving as the representative for District 3 (Amesbury, Beverly, Gloucester, Haverhill, Lawrence, Lowell, Lynn, Methuen, Newburyport, Peabody, Salem, Woburn). In addition to being on the board of the MMA, she is also an appointed member of the MMA Energy and the Environment Policy Committee which advises the MMA Board, staff and members on legislative, regulatory and public policy issues.
