Afroz Khan was first elected into office as a Councillor At Large in 2017. She is currently serving her second term. In her first term, Afroz demonstrated her commitment to residents and the broader community through active engagement and discourse. She conducts quarterly meetings with residents and when necessary helps put together community forums on areas of specific interest. Afroz was born and raised in Chicago by her immigrant parents who came to the US from India in the 1960's. She received her B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Alaska Fairbanks and earned her Masters in Electric Power Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. With over 25 years of experience in her field of engineering, Afroz is currently employed as a senior energy efficiency consultant with The Forward Curve based out of Minnesota. Afroz and husband Dr. Ahmer Ibrahim have two daughters Arissa (13) and Anya (10). Both of her daughters have been attending Newburyport Public Schools since Kindergarten. Her husband works in Newburyport with Pentucket Medical Associates and is on the medical staff at Anna Jacques Hospital.
