COVID-19 Vaccines

COVID-19 BIVALENT BOOSTER VACCINES:

On September 1, 2022, Pfizer and Moderna's updated booster doses were authorized by the FDA and recommended by the CDC. These updated COVID-19 boosters add Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 spike protein components to the current vaccine composition, helping to restore protection that has waned since previous vaccination by targeting variants that are more transmissible and immune-evading. Starting the week of September 5th these will be available in Massachusetts.

Anyone age 12 or older who completed a primary COVID-19 vaccination series or received a booster dose at least two months ago should get the updated booster as soon as possible. It is important to stay up to date on vaccines, including boosters, as it is the most effective way to prevent serious illness, hospitalization, and death from COVID-19. While vaccine protection does decrease over time, boosters restimulate the immune system and increase vaccine efficacy again. Boosters are an important defense, even if you've already had COVID-19.
