Parking Garage Construction Update - July 26, 2018

ATTENTION:

On July 23, 2018 , the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) Bureau of Air and Waste officially approved the City's successful completion of asbestos abatement procedures.

Site crews have mobilized this week to continue work associated with building footings, drainage, foundation and rebar/forms, and are continuing to install infrastructure (oil/storm water units) at their pre-determined locations now that the City has successfully completed the abatement process for hazardous materials discovered during excavation operations.

The City will be temporarily restricting parking in certain areas along Merrimac Street, Titcomb Street, Washington Street and High Street (Mid-August) due to turning movements required by the trucking company which will be transporting pre-cast components of the building to the site from Vermont. A Formal notice will be provided to residents in the vacinity of the restriction area in the coming days, which will depict all areas where parking will be temporarily restricted. The City anticipates these temporary parking restrictions to extend into late September, and we are working with the Immaculate Conception Church/School, Public Safety Officials, and delivery services to alleviate any potential issues in-light of school drop offs/pick-ups, and curtail impacts to residents as much as possible during this delivery time.
