The City of Newburyport will host a virtual public informational meeting on Thursday June 4th at 7:00pm regarding the draft updated Open Space and Recreation Plan (OSRP) along with the associated survey results and other input. The plan articulates the community’s goals and objectives regarding parks and open space, as well as the framework of a seven-year action plan. The plan focuses on the protection and enhancement of our heritage landscapes, wildlife habitat, recreational opportunities, public drinking water supplies, and overall sustainability and climate change resilience. Over 450 citizens responded to the OSRP survey, representing a cross-section of Newburyporters from across the community. The “Zoom” invitation to the public meeting is listed below:

Open Space and Recreation Plans are necessary for the City to be eligible for state grant funding for open space preservation and park improvement projects. The draft plan needs be completed by the end of June 2020 in order to be eligible for FY21 grants such as the Parkland Acquisitions and Renovations for Communities (PARC) program. The plan will also serve as a significant guidance document for the City’s Open Space Committee, Parks Commission, Community Preservation Committee, and other City Boards and Departments.
