Whittier Image

The City is providing an update on the January 23rd Special Election on whether to authorize the bonding of over $444 million to build a new building for Whittier Vocational Technical High School. Based on preliminary vote totals that have been reported by the Whittier member communities, there will be a majority of votes against the proposal. The Whittier School District will release final vote totals when they are available. You can find Newburyport’s unofficial results here

The Whittier School District has options on how to move forward following this vote, and they will inform the member communities of next steps soon. There will be further opportunities for the public to be involved with this process, and the City will continue to share updates.

Newburyport’s voter turnout was over 33%, which is very high for a special election. The City thanks everyone who came out to vote on this important issue, and we look forward to continued engagement on this and other City priorities in the coming year.
