The First Recreation and Youth Services Activity Guide!

Nrys image

This past fall, the City’s Youth Services department (NYS)  became recreation and Youth Services through an executive order approved by City Council.  The Recreation and Youth Services Department is tasked with running high quality recreational activities for Newburyporters of all ages, engaging youth in positive activities outside the school day, and meeting underlying needs of children and families through effective community services. The biggest change from NYS is the addition of adult and community recreation.

New from NBPT Rec and Youth Services:

Our new winter activity guide is available online and for download.  This Activity Guide covers mostly January to March programs.

Our spring and summer guide will be out by the end of February and Summer Registration will begin on March 13th at 6pm.

"Pre-school Rec" is geared to infants to 5 years of age.

"Children's Rec” for elementary age children.

“Youth Programs” for our middle and high school age participants; most of which fall under our Youth Center.

"Adult Rec" programs are for ages 18+.

Community/ Family Rec is for everyone.

Services and Supports are geared for families and caregivers, but assistance is available to all community members.

In addition to programming and services, we are also including a community spotlight page. This season we have a page about the Council on Aging and all of their services and programs for the over 50 crowd! We hope to spotlight other City department’s as well as our community partners.

We have several memberships available:

The Family Club -  for families with children under 5 looking to connect with other families!

The Newburyport learning Enrichment Center- a program for academic, enrichment and social support for underserved populations.

The NBPT Rec Ski and Snow Club- we are looking to connect skiiers and snow boarders of all ages with discounts to local mountains and hopefully to start planning and bringing back community ski trips!

Therapeutic Rec- this memberships allows us to get to know individual with special needs or accommodations to ensure that our programs stay accessible to all

The Youth Center- for young people grades 6-12 for activities, club and events year round

We are looking for program ideas for adult rec and would love to hear from community members.  You can email Joe Pauline with any ideas or requests you have. JPauline@cityofnewburyport.com

We welcome everyone to create an account in our MyRec online registration system for your household. That is the best place to find the most up to date information as well as sign up for programs and memberships.
