Newburyport Receives GFOA Budget Award

GFOA Budget Award FY19

NEWBURYPORT -- Mayor Donna D. Holaday is pleased to announce that the City of Newburyport received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its fiscal 2019 budget.

Presented by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA), the award is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting and represents a significant achievement by the City of Newburyport. This is the city's seventh consecutive year to win the award.

"We're extremely pleased and honored to once again receive this recognition from the GFOA," Mayor Holaday said. "This recognition illustrates Newburyport's continuous effort to produce a fiscally sound budget every year."

To receive the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, the City of Newburyport had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. The guidelines are designed to assess how well the city's budget serves as:

  • A policy document

  • A financial plan

  • An operations guide

  • A communications device

Budget documents had to be rated proficient in all four categories and in the 14 mandatory criteria within those categories.

The Government Finance Officers Association is a professional association servicing the needs of more than 19,000 appointed and elected local, state and provincial-level government officials. The GFOA provides top quality publications, training programs, services and products designed to enhance the skills and performance of those responsible for government finance and policy and management.
