National Grid Work on State Street Updates

Road Closed Graphic

The City of Newburyport and National Grid are sharing an update on National Grid’s gas main repair work on State and Middle Street.

Work concluded on State Street on April 21st.

Work has now shifted to Middle Street, where National Grid is replacing an 8-inch Main. National Grid ground the trench for the whole street on Monday, April 24th. The remainder of the week of the 24th they will need to post no parking signs in 100 feet increments in order to complete the work. No parking signs will be posted by the end of the work day.

Typical natural gas main replacement and service construction includes marking out underground utilities, excavation of the street and laying of new gas main, and relaying National Grid customer's individual gas services and connecting that service to the new main.

The City will remain in contact with National Grid throughout this work and questions can be directed to the Department of Public Services at (978) 465-4464. You can contact Joe Muraco at National Grid with questions about the project at Joseph.Muraco@nationalgrid.com.
