Updated 9:30am, Monday May 27th: The Memorial Day Ceremony will take place at 11:00am in City Hall. The Parade and procession have been canceled due to weather.

The City of Newburyport is sharing these announcements regarding Memorial Day: 

Memorial Day Ceremony

At 11:00 a.m. there will be a speaking program in the City Hall Auditorium. The program includes an invocation by Major Jon-Eric Bourkhardt of the Salvation Army, a reading of the names of recently departed veterans by Mayor Sean Reardon, remarks by Veterans Agent Kevin Hunt, and musical offerings by the Newburyport High School Marching Band.

The parade and procession have been canceled due to rain. 

Building Closures

All public buildings will be closed on Memorial Day. City Hall and the Senior Community Center will open at 8am on Tuesday, May 28th. The Newburyport Public Library will open at 9am on Tuesday. 

Memorial Day Trash & Curbside Recycling Collection

Due to the Memorial Day Holiday, trash and recycling pick-up will be delayed by one day all week. Residents with Monday pick-up will have pick-up on Tuesday, May 28. Residents who typically  have Tuesday pick-up will have pick-up on Wednesday, the 29th, and so on. Friday residents will have pick-up on Saturday, June 1. The Downtown District, however, will have Friday pick-up as usual. 

Municipal Yard Waste Facility

The yard waste facility will be open on Tuesday, May 28, as usual. The Yard Waste Facility is open Tuesday through Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. 

To get your Yard Waste Facility sticker: Order a sticker from the City website, starting at the home page (click on the circle “Make a Payment”), or click here: Order a Yard Waste sticker. Then look for “Yard Waste Stickers”. The sticker gives residents access to the Yard Waste Facility through the second weekend in December.  

Colby Farm Lane Recycling Center

The Colby Farm Lane Recycling Center will be CLOSED on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27.  

However, the first Saturday of June is coming up, so the Recycling Center will be open from 8 AM until 12 PM on Saturday, June 1.  

 The City of Newburyport thanks veterans for their service to our country, and encourages all to take time during the day to remember all victims of war.
