Mayor Sean Reardon wishes to announce the departure of Acting Director of the Department of Public Services Jamie Tuccolo, and thanks him for his years of service to the City.

Tuccolo has accepted a position as Director of Public Works in the Town of Salisbury. His last day with the City of Newburyport is March 3.

“Jamie has been a phenomenal asset to the City of Newburyport, and his leadership skills have built a great team at DPS,” Mayor Reardon said. “We wish him the best of luck in his new role.”

Tuccolo joined the City in 2008 as Sewer Superintendent. In 2018 he was named Deputy Director of the DPS, and then Acting Director last August following the retirement of Director Anthony Furnari.

As Deputy Director, Tuccolo was the architect of the administration’s 5-year plan to improve streets and sidewalks. Under Tuccolo’s direction, the City paved 23 streets last year, improving quality of life throughout Newburyport.

As Acting Director, Tuccolo oversaw a number of key initiatives, including the installation of a new salt shed for the City, maintaining sewer service on Plum Island, adjusting snow and ice operations to improve results while reducing resources, and advancing major projects including the Lower Artichoke Dam.

The Collins Center, a municipal executive search firm, was selected to lead the search for a permanent Director in August 2022. Mayor Reardon is reviewing resumes with a screening committee, and hopes to bring his selection to the City Council for approval in the coming weeks.
