MassDOT: Sumner Tunnel Closed March 1st Weekend

First Weekend Closure of 2024
MAssDOT Advisory

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation advises that the first weekend closure of the Sumner Tunnel for 2024 is Friday March 1 to Monday March 4, 2024. The closure will allow engineers and contractors to properly develop plans for the next phase of work and closures with the least impact to travelers.

The Sumner Tunnel/Route 1A South will be closed on Friday, March 1 at 11:00 p.m. and will re-open to traffic no later than 5:00 a.m. on Monday, March 4.

Periodic weekend closures will resume in 2024. These closure dates will be available on the project website once they are finalized.

Travel Tips
Travelers are encouraged to use alternative modes of travel. Travelers can utilize MassDOT 511 to help review traffic conditions and MBTA’s Trip Planner to plan their public transit trips.
