Human Rights Commission Holding Peace Prize Ceremony

Peace Graphic

The 27th Annual Newburyport Human Rights Commission Peace Prize Awards Ceremony will be held Thursday, May 25th at 6pm at City Hall.   We will celebrate students from Newburyport schools who have been chosen by their respective schools to receive a Peace Prize. These students are being honored because of their willingness to speak up, to be inclusive, to value differences, and to welcome someone new.  Whether leading quietly or by example, by using their voices or through their actions, each of these students models respect of others and helps to create a peaceful atmosphere in his/her/their respective schools.

We will also celebrate one of our fellow adult community members and also one of our local community groups.  These award winners teach, write grants, write plays, write sermons, organize groups, establish programs, support the underserved, mentor, speak up, stand up, donate time, and engage the community in their peaceable activities.

Each award winner, students and adults, and groups alike, embodies the mission of the Human Rights Commission to uphold the human rights of all persons in Newburyport by promoting and supporting a sense of welcome and inclusion, and working to eliminate prejudice, intolerance, discrimination, and acts of hate in our community.

Come join us for this wonderful and uplifting event which is open to all. Families are welcome and youth are encouraged to attend and support their peers.
