Public Meeting on Low and North Atkinson Intersection Safety Improvement Project

Low Street at Colby Farm Lane / North Atkinson Street Intersection Safety Improvement Project

The City of Newburyport Department of Public Services (DPS) in conjunction with our traffic engineering consultant The Engineering Corp (TEC) will be hosting a public meeting to seek feedback from the community relating to improving the safety of the intersection of Low Street at Colby Farm Lane and North Atkinson Street. In addition to improving the intersection, the possibility of installing a sidewalk on the west side of North Atkinson Street from Low Street to the driveway of the Bresnahan Elementary School will be discussed.   

The meeting will be held at the Newburyport Senior Community Center located at 331 High Street on May 22, 2024 at 6pm in the first-floor meeting rooms A and B.

Our goal at this meeting is to receive feedback from the community regarding safety improvement concerns and possible options to address such issues. We will then take this information and gather additional data to design a safety improvement project that will address as many of the concerns expressed at the meeting.

Once a conceptual design has been completed and reviewed by DPS, we will host another meeting to review the conceptual design, receive additional feedback and discuss next steps. We believe this project would be a great candidate for a MassDOT Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Program grant project. Applications are due in the fall, so we hope to have a final conceptual design agreed upon and submitted by September 1, 2024.
