If you are a Newburyport resident who is having difficulty paying rent due or acquiring a rental home due to temporary barriers or the economic impacts of COVID-19, you may qualify for Newburyport Rental Assistance.

The purpose of the Emergency Rental Assistance Program is to provide short-term relief to low and moderate income individuals and families who are having difficulty paying their rent due to a temporary barrier or have been economically impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The City of Newburyport, through its Affordable Housing Trust, will be providing grants to financially assist qualified households with current rent payments or acquiring a new rental during a time of need. The City of Newburyport has partnered with the Pettengill House, Inc. to administer the rental assistance program.

Eligibility

To be eligible to receive a grant, the applicant must occupy a property in Newburyport and have a household income that is no greater than 80% of the area median income (AMI):
