Yard Waste Facility Opening Day, Leaf Pick-Up & Organics

Yard Waste Facility Opening Day

The city's yard waste facility, located at 23B Colby Farm Lane, will be opening on Tuesday, April 2 for the season. Weekly hours are Tuesdays through Saturdays from 7:30 AM to 2.30 PM.

To order a resident sticker, please visit this link and click on "ORDER NOW!" located just to the right of the "Yard Waste Stickers" payment type. Stickers will be mailed within three to five business days. You can print a receipt or copy the online confirmation number to use as proof of purchase until the sticker arrives.

The sticker entitles residents the use of the facility for the calendar year. For residents 65 years or older, the cost of the sticker is $5; the cost for those under 65 years of age is $20. The cost of a replacement sticker in the event the sticker is lost, misplaced, or damaged is $10.

Landscapers with three or more properties will need a landscaper permit to use the facility. This annual permit, good from April through December 2024, can be purchased at Newburyport City Hall for $250. Please call 978-499-0413 if you have questions or concerns.

Curbside Leaf Pick Up

Pick Curbside leaf pickup occurs on two Saturdays in the spring: Saturday, April 27, and Saturday, May 11. Bags with materials other than leaves will be left behind. Place leaves in paper leaf bags (fold bag over at the top) or leaves may also be placed in labeled barrels and put them out on the curb by 7 AM.

Curbside Organics

The city is also continuing to sponsor the startup kits for residents interested in curbside organics pick up. You can sign up for this self-subscription program at blackearthcompost.com. You can also purchase a backyard composter at the yard waste facility for $25.
