“Total Eclipse at the Park” Newburyport Recreation and Youth Services Hosts Free Eclipse Event on April 8th, 2024
Newburyport, MA - March 28, 2024 - On April 8th, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, the Newburyport Recreation and Youth Services is set to host an unforgettable experience, inviting the community to witness the awe-inspiring spectacle of a solar eclipse at Cashman Park, located at the Softball Field, in Newburyport, MA 01950.
Newburyport is not in the path to view the eclipse at 100%. Port Rec highly suggests those who can travel should. The solar corona surrounding the moon’s black silhouette is one of the most glorious sights in all of nature and will not occur in New England for another 40+ years. To see the full eclipse drive north into New England — Vermont, New Hampshire or Maine — toward the border with Canada.
However, for those who cannot travel, Port Rec wants to share in the fun. This free event promises an afternoon filled with wonder and excitement as the moon passes between the sun and Earth, casting a shadow over our world. Eclipse glasses will be provided to ensure safe viewing of this rare event, allowing attendees of all ages to marvel at the celestial phenomenon without any risk to their eyesight.
"We are thrilled to offer this unique opportunity for our community to come together and witness the beauty of a solar eclipse," said Egmont. "It's a chance for families, friends, and neighbors to bond over the wonders of the universe while enjoying a fun-filled afternoon outdoors." At 3:30pm, we will experience 94.31% coverage.
In addition to providing eclipse glasses for safe viewing, the event will also feature music, crafts and moon pies available for sale, adding a deliciously cosmic twist to the festivities. Bring your chairs!
