Whittier Superintendent Maureen Lynch To Attend A Special City Council Meeting
Whittier Superintendent Maureen Lynch will be attending a special City Council meeting on Monday, December 11 at 6 pm in the City Hall Council Chamber to discuss the proposed building of a new Whittier Regional Vocational Technical High School in Haverhill, MA. Residents are encouraged to attend to learn more about this project. The proposed building is estimated to cost $445 million, with $181 million to be expected from the Massachusetts School Building Authority. Newburyport is one of 11 sending communities and our proposed contribution is $30 million, with no existing funding mechanism in place to support this. The City currently has 29 students enrolled in the school. The Whittier School Committee will take a vote on whether to hold an election on January 23rd at their December 13 meeting, so this is a last opportunity to reach out and voice your opinion on the project prior to that vote.
