Board of Health Recommends that Residents  Take Precautions Trick or Treating and Avoid Other High Risk Halloween Activities

The Newburyport Board of Health recommends that residents take precautions Trick-or-Treating and avoid other high risk Halloween activities that involve social gathering. Newburyport is now classified as a community at higher risk of transmitting COVID-19.  Elderly residents are especially at risk.

Those that choose to participate in Trick or Treating are encouraged to:

  • Limit gatherings to your household/family members
  • Wear face coverings at all times - both indoors and out, and refrain from consuming food or beverages until you are at home and can safely remove your face covering
  • Minimize physical contact and maintain social distance of at least 6 feet from others
  • Wash hands and/or use hand sanitizer before handling or consuming food or treats.
  • Packaged candy should be cleaned prior to opening
  • Give treats outdoors  and avoid or limit physical contact with others
