Real Estate Transfer of Ownership Information

Transfer/Sale of property: Prior to the sale of property (residential/commercial) a final water & sewer bill is required. Realtors and closing attorney's can schedule an appointment for a final meter reading at the Water & Sewer Business Office (978) 465-4420. Final meter reading appointments are scheduled within seven business days of the closing date. For private sales, home owners can call to schedule the final meter reading.

Please include the following information when scheduling the appointment.

• Date of closing
• Dame of new owner
• Name, telephone and fax number of closing attorney 

Please Note: Someone must be available to let the Water Technician into the dwelling to gather infromation for the final bill. Final bills are e-mailed to the closing attorney. The City of Newburyport is not responsiable for unpaid Water and Sewer bills generated by property transfers that occured that failed to request a final Water and Sewer bill.
