Health Alert: Due to a sanitary sewer overflow in Haverhill that may affect water quality in the Merrimack River, the Newburyport Health Department is advising the public to avoid contact with Merrimack River water until further notice. Plum Island Beach is closed effective immediately and is expected to remain closed through at least Monday, pending water quality monitoring and additional information.
