Update on Resolving High Street Painting Issues

Contractor will return next week to repaint errors.

Over the past few days the Department of Public Services (DPS) has focused on addressing and correcting all issues resulting from poor workmanship on High Street by our line painting contractor.  Several errors were made in both in the location of lines and lane width.  The contractor has accepted responsibility and will be repainting all the incorrect lanes next week at no additional cost to the City.  The contractor will be using a special machine that will completely remove paint without damaging the new asphalt.

Furthermore, the City and the contractor are working on a plan to repair all tire tracks marks.  To minimize the impact on traffic and accommodate morning commuters, High Street remained open the morning of August 27th with police detail during the line painting.  It is unfortunate that certain drivers ignored the police detail and drove through the fresh paint causing the smearing of lines and tire tracks.  It only takes three minutes for the paint to dry.  To ensure this doesn’t happen again, the City will be taking extra precautions and will be closing High Street overnight for the repainting and will detour traffic.

The work will occur next week and will be completed by Friday, September 6th.   The City will have a more detailed schedule by next Tuesday.
