Indigenous People's Day Events in Newburyport

Multiple events mark the City's second formal observance of the holiday
Indigenous People's Day Event October 8th

On Monday, October 10th, City Hall and municipal buildings will be closed for the observance of Indigenous People’s Day. City Hall will reopen at 8am on Tuesday, October 11th.

On Saturday, October 8th, there will be a free, family friendly outdoor event to observe Indigenous People’s Day at Waterfront Park from 10am to 3pm. This second annual event is organized by Imagine Studios and the First Religious Society Unitarian Universalist Church and will feature a speaking program, music, dancing and more from representatives of the region’s indigenous peoples. This will be an intertribal event and an opportunity to honor Native Peoples, past and present.

On October 2nd, we raised the tribal flag of the Cowasuck Band of the Penacook-Abenaki People, one of the groups indigenous to our region. This flag will be on display in City Hall throughout the month, and we invite you to visit and see it.
