FY2020 Budget Award

NEWBURYPORT -- Mayor Donna D. Holaday is pleased to announce that the City of Newburyport received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the eighth consecutive year.

Presented by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for Newburyport's fiscal year 2020 budget, the award is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting and represents a significant achievement by the City of Newburyport.

"The City is honored to receive this award for the 8th year in row," said Mayor Holaday.  "Our team puts a great amount of work into the annual budget process and I am pleased to be recognized by the GFOA for our efforts."

To receive the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, the City of Newburyport had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. The guidelines are designed to assess how well the city's budget serves as:

  • A policy document
  • A financial plan
  • An operations guide
  • A communications device

Budget documents have to be rated proficient in all four categories and in the 14 mandatory criteria within those categories.

The Government Finance Officers Association is a professional association servicing the needs of more than 19,000 appointed and elected local, state and provincial-level government officials. The GFOA provides top quality publications, training programs, services and products designed to enhance the skills and performance of those responsible for government finance and policy and management.
