West End Sewer Main Access Road

City of Newburyport has completed the design for the construction of a gravel access and service roadway within the West End Sewer cross-country right of way between Longfellow Drive and Storey Avenue along the Lower Artichoke Reservoir.  The purpose of this road is to give an unobstructed access to the gravity and force main sewers.  Currently there is no access and if the force main were to fail, our public water supply will be in danger of major contamination.  The access road will be constructed from the Artichoke Water Pump Station on Storey Avenue up to Everett Drive with a total length of approximately 885 feet.  Work will include, but not limited to, clearing and grubbing, earthworks, erosion control, and the construction of said access roads, and other incidental work.  .

The project area falls within land owned by the City of Newburyport and easements over various private residential parcels.  Both temporary and permanent easements are required in order to construct the road and maintain the sewer system in perpetuity.
