Indoor Mask Mandate

MASK MANDATE IN EFFECT FOR ALL PUBLIC INDOOR ESTABLISHMENTS AND VENUES WITHIN THE CITY EFFECTIVE DECEMBER 30, 2021 THROUGH FEBRUARY 28, 2022

On December 30, 2021, the Newburyport Board of Health voted to institute a mask order that requires the wearing of a mask over the nose and mouth in all public indoor establishments and venues within the city. This mandate was extended by the Board of Health until February 28, 2022.

The mandate is in response to the recent surge in COVID-19 cases across the state and locally in Newburyport and surrounding communities. The rise in cases is largely attributed to the Omicron variant, which is now the dominant strain in the United States. Indoor settings present a higher risk for COVID-19 transmission, especially in settings with individuals from multiple different households.

For Businesses: The Newburyport Health Department has signage available for pick-up for free at City Hall. If you have any questions about this mandate, please contact the Health Department at 978-465-4410.
